The BCITMA is not all work. When we need to have fun, we turn to our VP of Events Carli, who organizes various events throughout the school year for our entertainment. Remember the series of three parties we held earlier in the year? You know, those parties that had music, great people and only one casualty?

Well those parties are all organized by Carli and the Events Committee. And students love parties, which is probably why the Events Committee generates a lot of interest and has high rates of membership. As the VP of Events, Carli creates the live gatherings that bring the club together and allow everyone to have fun in the process.

Selling is needed everywhere, because it is what allows everything else to happen. Unfortunately, the pervasiveness of selling is also a reason why it is so misunderstood. Everyone has to sell, but most people are not good at it. The proverbial used car salesman is a representation of how many salespeople resort to harassment, misrepresentation or pressure tactics for the sake of earning their next commission.

Actual professional salespeople are neither pushy nor manipulative. Instead they are collaborators. They listen to clients and help them solve their problems. They communicate well with people (this is not the same as being talkative!). They are driven and ambitious. And they have a lot of fun doing so.

The consequences are well established, but what exactly went wrong? For the purposes of this article one fundamental cause will be covered: poor business practices. Mortgage lenders misrepresented their products to both people loaning money and the institutions that bought those loans (more on this later). The result was a catastrophe for everyone.
